The CPIML Uttar Pradesh State unit on 15 May expressed grave concern over the gang war and 3 deaths inside Chitrakoot jail and said that the safety of jail inmates is the government's responsibility in which it has failed.

The party said that not even jails are safe under this "Thhain thhain" (bang bang) government. There is no telling when and who will be killed. Criminals and government, both are on a killing spree. It seems as if Uttar Pradesh does not have an elected government but a 'gang government'.

The party asked, how did a pistol come into the hands of a prisoner when there is supposed to be tight security in jails? Did the government not learn any lessons from earlier such incidents that had happened before Chitrakoot? How can we be sure the Chitrakoot incident was not government-sponsored? These questions can be answered only through a free and fair enquiry.

CPIML has demanded that the Human Rights Commission and higher judiciary should take suo motu cognizance of the incident, ascertain the true facts and fix accountability.
