(Statement by AISA unit of Jamia Millia Islamia University)

A recent order issued by the Jamia Millia Islamia administration banning protests, slogans, and dissent against constitutional dignitaries is a reminder of how deeply the Sangh Parivar has infiltrated our academic institutions. This administration, which once prided itself on Jamia’s legacy of resistance and progressive thought, has now reduced itself to a mouthpiece for the BJP-RSS agenda.

This directive is not merely an attack on students—it is an attack on the very essence of a university. By equating dissent with disorder, the administration exposes its complicity in the BJP’s larger project of stifling democratic voices across the country. The ruling regime, incapable of tolerating criticism, has weaponized university authorities to shield itself from accountability. What we see today is not an administration that serves the students, but one that acts as a loyal enforcer of the Sangh’s oppressive ideology.

This complicity was most evident during the recent incident on campus during Diwali, when outsiders attempted to disrupt the peace and create communal tensions. Instead of protecting its students, the administration acted as an accomplice to the perpetrators. It shielded these outsiders while framing common students in fabricated cases, including several who weren’t even present at the site of the incident. By handing over student information to the police and facilitating FIRs against them, the administration revealed its allegiance—not to justice or its own student body, but to the Sangh-driven state machinery. This betrayal of its students’ trust is part of the same larger pattern: using repression and intimidation to suppress any form of resistance against the Hindutva agenda.

Let us be clear: this is not just about banning protests on campus. This is part of the Sangh’s larger agenda to strip universities of their autonomy and transform them into factories of conformity. By targeting dissenting students, labeling protests as “anti-national,” and criminalizing political discourse, the administration seeks to align Jamia with the BJP’s vision of a Hindutva-driven, authoritarian state.

But Jamia is not just any campus. This university has a proud history of standing up to oppression and injustice. From its founding during the anti-colonial struggle to its role in opposing the CAA-NRC, Jamia has always been a bastion of resistance. We will not let this legacy be hijacked by the Sangh’s foot soldiers in the administration.

AISA rejects this shameful order by the Jamia administration. Jamia belongs to its students, not to the BJP or the Sangh. We call on all progressive and democratic forces to unite against this authoritarian onslaught. The campuses of this country will not bow down to the fascist designs of the RSS-BJP.

This is our fight. Let us reclaim our university, our voices, and our future. No intimidation, no order, no regime can silence the spirit of resistance.

Inquilab Zindabad!
