Adivasi Women Rise Up in Protest in Assam's Silsako

On September 1, hundreds of Adivasi women protested in Assam's largest city Guwahati against a demolition drive on poor living in Silsako Beel (lake) area. As excavators ravaged to the ground several houses, few women took off their clothes in protest against the attack on their lives and livelihood. .The amount of anguish, helplessness and frustration women have to go through to take off their clothes publicly is unimaginable. For days they had been protesting against evictions, that was specifically targeting the poor and was without any rehabilitation policy.  The silence of the Hemanta Biswa Sarma led BJP government clearly reflects the anti-poor and anti-tribal policy of the BJP. While rich in ‘encroached’ area were spared, like Tata’s Ginger hotel, bulldozers are selectively unleashed against the indigenous people.

CPI(ML) demands the resignation of the Chief Minister and immediate stop on demolition drive.
