THE behaviour of the police-administration towards the minor rape victim in Sendul village, Jaunpur (Tehri, Uttarakhand) was extremely insensitive and condemnable.

On 30 May 2019 a 9 year old dalit girl child was raped in Sendul village by a 24 year old upper caster person. Following protests, the police had to arrest the accused person.

The child was released from the Doon Hospital within 3-4 hours, and on 31 May the police brought the child back to her village 150 km away from the hospital. As a result, the child was deprived of sustained medical observation and care.

The very next day the police took her to record her statement under 164 CRPC to Tihri 250 kms away. What crosses all limits of insensitivity is that the same vehicle in which the police took the victim child and her mother to record the statement also carried the accused person. By taking the rape victim and the rape accused in the same vehicle, whose interests were the police working for?

The child has again been admitted to hospital in Dehradun. The government hospital does not give proper medical treatment to the rape victim, and the attitude and behaviour of the police continues to remain insensitive. In such a situation, can justice be ensured?
