We are grieved by the passing of Swami Agnivesh.

He was a lifelong crusader against social slavery and bigotry, and a friend of all kinds of people's movements.

Tributes were paid on 5 August 2020 at the CPIML State office in Patna as well as other offices to observe the memorial day of two leaders: Friedrich Engels, the great teacher and guide for the freedom of the world’s proletariat and Karl Marx’s lifelong friend and collaborator in the birth and development of Marxism; and Saroj Dutta, one of CPIML’s founder leaders.

It is hard to believe that our beloved comrade and versatile artist cartoonist Bashir Ahmed is no more with us. He had been ailing for some days and was undergoing treatment. But his sudden demise at 11 am on 8 August 2020 left everyone stunned.

The death of renowned Urdu poet Rahat Indori on 11 August 2020 is an irreparable loss to Indian literature and the composite culture of our country. Born in Indore in 1950, we lost this scholar, poet and lyricist to the Covid19 virus suddenly and untimely. He was 69.

With great grief, CPIML bids farewell to feminist scholar, activist, teacher and writer Ilina Sen, who succumbed to cancer on 9 August 2020. She was 69.

Marking 48 years of CPIML founding General Secretary Comrade Charu Majumdar, a memorial meeting was held at Charu Bhawan, the CPIML headquarters at Delhi. The meeting was presided over by CPIML politburo member comrade Swadesh Bhattacharya.

On 17 July 2020, the first anniversary of the Umbha massacre at Sonbhadra, the CPIML paid tribute to the adivasis killed in the massacre and organized memorial meetings at more than a dozen villages. As the administration had banned memorial meetings at Umbha village, party leaders organized meetings at adjacent Magardahan (Ghorawal) and neighboring villages to pay tribute to the victims.
