Agitations by Students in Jharkhand

HUNDREDS of students led by AISA-RYA had jammed the GT Road for more than 1½ hours on 10 October 2018 to protest against the long delays in issuing income, caste, and residence certificates. Earlier, on 6 October the students had staged a dharna at the Zonal HQ and a delegation had met the SDO to demand early issuance of certificates; otherwise, they demanded extension of the last date to fill the forms. In view of the difficulties faced by students in filling the online forms, AISA-RYA leaders spoke to the Jharkhand Welfare Secretary and requested him to extend the date.

Left Unity Victory in JNU Celebrated across Country

AS soon as the news came of the Left Unity’s landslide victory over ABVP in the JNUSU elections, AISA and RYA held celebrations in universities and colleges across the country. At the same time, when news came of the ABVP attacks on the elected union office bearers and former office bearers and the JNU Vice Chancellor cracking down on students’ democratic rights under this pretext, a wave of outrage swept across various campuses and the students burnt effigies of the ABVP and the JNU VC. The Left Unity called for a countrywide protest in this matter on 19 September 2018.

AISA-RYA Organize Workshop on Marxism in Patna

AISA, RYA and Insaf Manch organized a Marxist training workshop at Patna on 30 August 2018. Addressing the activists participating in the workshop, CPI(ML) General Secretary Com. Dipankar Bhattacharya said that the ideology of Marx is the most powerful weapon in the struggle for social change. There is a great attraction among the younger generation for Marx’s thinking and the fact that the Communist Manifesto is among the most widely read books of the world gives an indication of its popularity. AISA Launches the Campaign 'Chaar Saal, Chattron ka Haal’

In order to have a critical assessment of government's policy towards the students and youth of the country, AISA has taken up a survey campaign which will be taken among the students of Delhi University. The campaign will simultaneously be taken to students and youths nationally. The 'Report Card' will find out to what extent did the Modi government fulfil the promises it made to the students and youths of this country. The Report Card will test the reality of Delhi University based on the following criteria:

AISA Struggle Wins Concessional Bus & Metro Passes for DU Students

Taking the movement for accessible transportation forward AISA students staged a protest at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs demanding Metro Concessional Passes for DU students. A delegation of four students met Mr. Hardeep Puri who accepted the demand of the students to be genuine and promised that their demands will be met when the next fixation committee will be set up and a cap on fare for students will be fixed.

AIPWA Condemns Move to Debar and Punish BHU Students Who Protested Sexual Harassment

Last year the whole country stood by the BHU women students who were protesting the Administration’s apathy towards sexual harassment, and its imposition of discriminatory and misogynist rules on women students and residents of women’s hostels. BHU students, men and women both, have protested peacefully on many occasions, demanding 24/7 library facilities for all students and equality and safety for women students. Under pressure, the then BHU VC was sent on long leave and the first woman Chief Proctor in BHU’s history was appointed.

Bihar Bandh by Left Parties against Muzaffarpur Gang Rape Incident

The Bihar bandh called by Left parties on 2 August 2018 against the rape and sexual violence at the Muzaffarpur Girls Home and many other places in Bihar nurtured and protected by the ruling powers, was had a massive impact. Widespread effect of the bandh was seen at Patna, Shahabad, Siwan, Jehanabad, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Arwal, Gaya, Katihar, Nawada and other districts. In Patna a joint march of the CPI (ML), CPI, CPI-M, SUCI (C), RSP and Forward Bloc started from the South Gate of Gandhi Maidan.
