Com. Bani Bhattacharya breathed her last at her home in Subhasgram, Kolkata on 5 June 2023 at 91. She stayed safe and kept well through the successive waves of the Covid19 pandemic, but lately old age had started catching up. She was the mother of comrade Dipankar Bhattacharya.
Born in Bogura district of erstwhile East Bengal and current Bangladesh, Com. Bani Bhattacharya’s early life was disrupted by the traumatic developments of the 1940s when her family migrated from Dubchachia in Bogura to Balurghat in Dinajpur (currently headquarter of South Dinajpur district of West Bengal).
The communist movement in the country and the struggles for justice, liberty and equality led by CPIML attracted her and she enrolled herself as a Party member.
