Senior comrade from Muzaffarpur Sakal Thakur passed away at the party's District Office due to a heart attack at 3 PM on 1 January 2021. Seventy-two year old Comrade Sakal joined the CPIML in his youth during the Naxalbari rebellion and held many responsibilities in the party during that phase. For the past 50 years he consistently played a leading role in party activities. For about 25 years till date he was a full-time activist of the party District Committee and District Standing Committee, and for 15 years he was the District Office Secretary.
On receiving the news of his demise, State Secretary Kunal and Cenral Committee member and AIPWA General Secretary Meena Tiwari reached the Muzaffarpur District office at Harisabha Chowk. Party activists in large numbers also arrived from Muzaffarpur city as well as various Blocks in the District.
Hundreds of CPIML, Left, social and cultural activists as well as RJD, Congress and socialist leaders paid tribute at the Muzaffarpur party office to comrade Sakal Thakur. Among those who laid flowers and paid tribute were CPIML Central Committee member and AIPWA General Secretary Meena Tiwari, City MLA Vijendra Chaudhury, Phulwarisharif CPIML MLA Gopal Ravidas, RJD District President Ramesh Gupta, AICCTU State General Secretary RN Thakur, CPI State Council member Ajay Singh, CPM leader Sundeshwar Sahani, CPI (ML) New Democracy senior leader Sureshdas Kanojia, Class Struggle District Secretary Uday Chaudhury, SUCI leader Arvind Kumar, socialists Shahid Kamal and Prof Arvind Kumar De, Advocate Laliteshwar Mishra, Ashok Kumar Singh, Manoj Mishra, Prof Awadhesh Kumar, Anand Patel, Insaf Manch State President Suraj Kumar Singh, State Vice President Aftab Alam, AISA leader Deepak Kumar and others.
Comrade Sakal Thakur fought life-long for social equality, justice, brotherhood and harmony. His life was dedicated to welfare of the people. From a young age, he was committed for 50 years to the revolutionary Communist movement. His life is an example for the new generation to follow.
Comrade Sakal Thakur's final journey started from the CPIML office in Harisabha Chowk amidst chants of 'Long Live Comrade Sakal Thakur!' and 'Red Salute to Comrade Sakal Thakur!' and accompanied by hundreds of people. The final journey reached the banks of Sikandarpur River where hundreds of people with tearful eyes consigned his mortal remains to the fire in the presence of Comrade Sakal Thakur's wife Sharda Devi, his four sons and daughters, relatives and neighbours.
