COM. Gurudas Dasgupta, veteran communist leader, Parliamentarian and former general secretary of AITUC and a tireless fighter for workers’ cause, for secularism and democracy passed away on 31 October 2019 in Kolkata. He was 82. Comrade Gurudas was involved in the communist movement since his student days. He also played a pivotal role in organizing Bank and Insurance employees, apart from other sections of workers. He dedicated his life to the cause of Indian Working Class. His demise is a great loss to the United trade union movement and working class movement as a whole. Incidentally he left us on the day of 100th anniversary of the founding of AITUC of which he remained General Secretary for almost 17 years since 2001. He was elected five times in the Parliament, in the Rajya Sabha as well as in the Lok Sabha.
