COMRADE Karmchand Mahto, one of the founders of the CPI(ML) in Giridih District, passed away at the age of 70 on May 12 2019.
Comrade Karmchand was born in a middle peasant household in the village of Banpura in Giridih. He was popularly known by the nickname ‘Gandhi’. In the early 80s Comrade Karmchand worked shoulder to shoulder with Comrade Mahendra Singh to build the Party in Giridih, through movements resisting severe police repression and feudal oppression. He was jailed for his role in these struggles, but never lost his dedication to the party’s and people’s cause. When Comrade Mahendra Singh was in jail, it was Comrade Karmchand’s tireless efforts helped the party’s Giridih unit host the 1982 Third Congress successfully.
Six years ago Comrade Karmchand suffered a paralytic attack. He passed away on 12 May, 2019 leaving a void which cannot be filled. He is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter.
The Giridih District Party Committee flew the party flag at half mast on 13 May as a mark of respect to Comrade Karmchand Mahto.
His cheerful personality, hard work and dedication will always be an inspiration for comrades.
