A rally was held at Albert Ekka Chowk in Ranchi on 11 June led by the CPI(ML) to demand the withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016. Slogans were raised and copies of the Amendment Bill were burnt. Rallies and protests were also held in Garhwa District and a 15 point memorandum submitted to the Governor of Jharkhand. The demands were as follows: revoke the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016; retain the 1955 Act which is in keeping with the concept of the Indian Republic; end the conspiracy to divide people on the basis of religion; action against officials responsible for deaths in Jharkhand due to hunger; revamp and correct the Public Distribution System; control rising prices; provide 20 hours of electricity. Addressing the meeting at Ambedkar Chowk CPI(ML) leaders said that the people of the country would evict the BJP in 2019 and give a fitting reply to their betrayal.
