On 5th May, the 200th birth anniversary of Karl Marx was celebrated by CPI(ML) activists throughout the country.
Karl Marx Bicentenary Symposium in Chhattisgarh: The CPI(ML) and AICCTU organized a symposium in Bhilai. After the garlanding of Marx’s portrait, labour leader Muktanand Sahu read CPI(ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya’s article, ‘The Long March to Human Freedom Continues’. The participants in the symposium then spoke in turn expressing their views on the topic, after which a discussion followed.
Delhi: AICCTU and CPI(ML) organised a poster exhibition in Bawana industrial area, one of the biggest industrial areas in Delhi. They also distributed a large number of pamphlets among the workers. Several workers also shared their oppressive working conditions. A woman worker who worked in a 10 hour shift shared that the owner only gave them Rs. 6000, despite them working for such extra long hours a day for four years now. Lakhs of workers in Delhi continue to be denied minimum wages. Recently there have been several accidents involving fire that has resulted in horrifying deaths of several dozens of workers working in these extremely oppressive and utterly dangerous units. Several workers requested AICCTU leaders to help them organise strikes at their workplaces as there seemed to be no other way to make their employers think about workers’ safety.
Rallies, public meetings and flag hoisting programmes to celebrate Karl Marx’s bicentenary were organised across states, districts, towns and villages throughout the country.
