Birsa Munda Martyrdom Day

Birsa Munda  martyrdom day was observed on 9 June with a meeting held under the aegis of the ‘Oust BJP, Save Jharkhand’ campaign at Kesonehara Panchayat in Garhwa District. Addressing the meeting CPI(ML) District Secretary Kalicharan Mehta said that it is time to give a fitting reply to the BJP government for their betrayal of the people of India. The meeting was also addressed by other district and block level leaders who called upon the people to come in large numbers to the Block HQ on 10 June to demand resolution of people’s issues.

Birsa Munda martyrdom day was also observed at Sonarai Thadi Block in Devghar Disrict. A one-day dharna protest by Rasoiyas and Sanyojkas was organized led by Geeta Mandal, Bhagwatiya Devi, Dropdi Devi, Savitri Devi, Champa Tudru and others. Protests, rallies and dharnas were also held at Bagodar, Rajdhanwar, Jamua, Bengabad, Giridih, Koderma where the following issues were raised: land loot through land banks in Jharkhand; 100% implementation of Schedule 5B; price rise and unemployment; bringing back workers (from Jharkhand and other places in India) being kidnapped and held captive in Afghanistan; NREGA and Public Distribution System; Kameshwar Ravidas martyrdom day; against the spread of hatred and violence and for peace and harmony.
