AIPWA held a sit-in protest in front of the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi on 15 June with a 12 point memorandum. Protesting against the oppression of the people by police and administration under the Raghuvar government and the growing incidents of rape and murder against women and children, AIPWA demanded that the District Magistrates should be held accountable for the worsening situation. Under the current fascist regime the RSS-BJP is consciously nurturing the culture of fear, hatred, loss of human values and crimes against women, especially minors. AIPWA has demanded the arrest of the accused persons in these incidents, speedy trial, and severe punishment for the guilty.
Apart from these demands the following demands were also made: stop privatization of education and create permanent job opportunities by giving government employee status to all scheme workers; minimum wages and equal pay for equal work as per Supreme Court directives; roll back the decision to close government schools and absorb Rasoiyas and Sanyojikas into the schools; roll back the decision to hand over the midday meal scheme to private companies; open a government high school and health centre in every Panchayat, appoint lady doctors on a regular basis and establish women’s colleges at the Block level.
This State level dharna by AIPWA had participants from many districts. The dharna was led by Savita Singh, Geeta Mandal, Eti Tirkey, Shanti Sen, Lakhimuni Munda, Devki Devi, Sudha Jaiswal, Anita Bhengra, Manisha Singh, Rani Sharma, Anita Thakur, Salomi Soren, Amarjeet Kaur and Meena Devi. A 12 point memorandum was submitted to the Governor of Jharkhand.
