Communal Polarisation in Bihar

On November 11, 2024, CPIML Patna unit staged a protest against the Nitish-Modi government, for pushing Bihar towards a state of lawlessness similar to Uttar Pradesh. The protest was organised at Patna’s Kankarbagh Tempo Stand, chanting slogans like “Stop Turning Bihar into UP” and “Double Engine Government Must Stop the Increasing Crimes” and demanded accountability for the rising incidents of loot and murder, and sexual violence against women in Bihar.

Led by CPIML’s State Committee member Ranvijay Kumar, the protesters marched from Ashok Nagar Road to Kankarbagh Tempo Stand, where they burned an effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The protest aimed to highlight Bihar’s surge in violent crimes and called for an immediate crackdown on criminal activities allegedly shielded under political patronage.

Addressing the gathering, Ranvijay Kumar accused the Nitish-Modi government of failing to control crime, leaving Bihar in distress. He said the BJP with instigating communal discord in the state, citing recent incidents such as Hindu Swabhiman Yatras in Seemanchal led by BJP leader Giriraj Singh and cases of religious tensions, including a recent incident where a saffron flag was allegedly hoisted on a mosque in Bhagalpur.

“The criminal, feudal and divisive elements have emboldened under the Nitish-Modi regime. The people of Bihar are suffering but the government has turned a blind eye,” said Comrade Ranvijay. Highlighting a high-profile robbery at a jewellery store in Kankarbagh, he called it a blatant challenge to law enforcement in Bihar. He accused the government of creating a fertile ground for crime and communal violence, stating that the “double engine government” had decided to stoke violence in Bihar for political gain.

The CPIML demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the Kankarbagh jewellery heist and other criminal incidents across Patna and Bihar.
