As part CPIML’s "Haq Do, Vada Nibhao" (Fulfil Promises, Give Rights) campaign, thousands of poor and marginalised people gathered at the Patna Sadar Office on September 28 to demand for income certificates and providing housing land to poor households. The income certificate is required for the application for the government's small entrepreneur scheme, which promises financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakhs to families earning less than Rs. 72,000 annually.
Led by CPI(ML) leaders, the protesters staged a day-long demonstration, submitting thousands of applications for income certificates and residential land allotment. The protest ended after discussions between CPI(ML) leaders and Patna SDO officials, who assured the protesters that from Monday onward, income certificates would be processed, and the land requests would be forwarded to the state government.
CPI(ML) leaders criticised the Nitish Kumar government for its slow implementation of the promised scheme, accusing it of turning the Rs. 2 lakh assistance into an empty promise similar to Modi's Jhumla of Rs. 15 Lakh. The government already possesses data on poor families from the caste-based census and should expedite assistance without requiring income certificates.
"Poor families need immediate support, and the government’s promises of pucca houses and financial aid must be fulfilled. We will not let this become another hollow political promise," said CPI(ML) Patna Town Secretary, Comrade Abhyuday.
The protest was part of an ongoing series of actions across the state under the "Haq Do, Vada Nibhao" campaign, and CPI(ML) leaders vowed to continue the struggle until all eligible families receive the benefits promised by the government. The protest was led by CPI(ML) leaders, including Ranvijay Kumar and Jitendra Kumar, among other leaders.
