CPIML in statement issued on May 2 condemned the arbitrary detention of Comrade Arjun Lal, CPIML leader in Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh, On May 2, the district police arrived at the house of popular leader Arjun Lal in view of the of Narendra Modi’s May 5 election program in Hargaon.
The party noted that the under Modi-Yogi double engine regime, the arbitrary arrests and police crackdown has become widespread and anyone critical of regime’ anti-people policies are being targeted. The Election Commission of India has called these Lok Sabha elections a Festival of Democracy and 'Chunav ka Parv, Desh ka Garv'. But as a leader of an opposition party, Comrade Arjun Lal has been denied his constitutional democratic right just because PM Modi is visiting the area. Such action by the state is a brazen violation of civil liberties, hindering the level playing field during the elections.
Comrade Arjun Lal is a popular leader in Hargaon and an elected people's representative. He is a Zilla Panchayat member who is very popular among poor rural masses. He has dedicated himself for the democratic rights of the poor and dalits. As a leader of CPIML and as a constituent of the INDIA alliance, he has every right to canvas for the alliance candidate without any obstruction and hindrance.
