Brutal Police Repression on Farmers in Buxar
CPIML Bihar State Secretary Kunal has strongly condemned the brutal police repression on the farmers protesting for their legitimate demands in front of the Chausa Thermal Power Plant in Buxar. He called BJP-JD(U) an anti-farmer government.
On March 20, farmers had organised a protest outside the construction site of the thermal power plant, demanding better compensation for their land acquisition and jobs for young people. The farmers had been staging a peaceful dharna for the past 11 days with their demands. But instead of hearing the demands of the farmers, the police brutally attacked the protest, including women and also assaulting villagers.
A CPIML Liberation team consisting of Dumraon MLA Ajit Kushwaha, Jagnarayan Sharma, Neeraj Kumar, Rajdev Singh and Tejnarayan Singh visited many villages including Banarpur, Kochadhi, Mohanpurwa to talk to the farmers and investigate the matter. Comrade Ajit said that the entire incident took place in the presence of Shahabad DIG Naveen Chandra Jha, SP Manish Kumar, SDPO Dheeraj Kumar, Sub-Divisional Officer Dhirendra Mishra along with several police station in charges. Under their direction the brutal police violence was unleashed.
The matter is related to the acquisition of land for the 1320 MW Chausa Thermal Power Plant, railway corridor and pipeline under construction by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam. For this project, the land of hundreds of farmers in about 20 villages was to be taken to be acquired for the power plant. But, the compensation amount in 2022 is being given by the government at the circle rate of Minimum Price Register of 2013. Farmers are demanding fair compensation, but they are repeatedly harassed and repressed.
For the past few months, farmers have been protesting at the main gate of the thermal power plant under construction, with their 11-point demands. On Wednesday, under the excuse of an order of the High Court against the protesting farmers, the police, and administration launched a massive police crackdown. Not only farmers at the site were attacked, the police force entered nearby villages and assaulted women, elderly, and children.
CPIML has demanded strict action against the police officials responsible for unleashing the violence against farmers and villagers. The party also called for the immediate release of arrested farmers and proper compensation for the farmers for land acquired for the project.
