More than fifteen thousand tribal farmers marched on foot for 12 days from Maharashtra’s Nandurbar to Mumbai under the banner of Satyashodhak Shetkari Sabha affiliated Kisan Mahasabha. The long culminated in Nasik on December 18 with the government agreeing to demand of the tribal farmers, which included implementation of Forest Rights Act, schemes for tribals, forest rights assigned to tribals and permission to conduct various agricultural practices.
On December 17, AIKM National General Secretary Com. Rajaram Singh joined the march. Addressing the gathering he said “your long march for your demands including Forest Rights Act, MSP and drought relief shows that even today without movement and struggles the government won’t listen to the people. Today, laws are being made to give agriculture, tribal land and forests to the capitalists. It’s an irony that even as food production is increasing in the country and the hunger is also increasing.
Com. Purushottam Sharma, AIKM National Secretary joined the long march on 18 December. Saluting the resolve and determination of thousands of tribal farmers of the long march, he said that the Modi regime is hell bent to destroy all the rights achieved by the tribals, farmers and workers through long history of struggle. This government wants to turn convent people into slaves of rich corporates. We all must steadfastly ensure that the defeat of this pro-corporate government in 2024 elections to protect not only our rights, democracy and the constitution but also land, forest and all other natural resources.
