The e-rickshaw and Tempo operators’ union in Patna struck work to highlight their demands of opening new routes in the city, providing hassle free permits, erecting rickshaw stands and charging points on major crossings, and to stop police harassment and forced money extortion.
A demonstration was held on 27 April led by AICCTU leader Ranvijay Kumar who said that the administration is working towards making Patna and other big cities an abode for elites only by making poor people more vulnerable and insecure. The government through various draconian orders and rules is making unorganised sector workers’ lives extremely difficult and this will be opposed till the Mahagathbandhan government changes its track of prioritising urban poor over the rich in its planning and policy framework.
