Rajasthan Loktantrik Morcha Rally against Agnipath Scheme

Large numbers of workers, farmers, women, students and youth held a rally at the call of the Rajasthan Loktantrik Morcha on 22 June 2022 in Udaipur with a 17-point charter of demands. The rally resounded with slogans: scrap the Agnipath scheme; end Bulldozer Raj; arrest Nupur Sharma and Navin Jindal; give land pattas to adivasis and other poor settled on land; conduct census on the basis of population. The rally was led by CPIML State Secretary Mahendra Chaudhury, CPIM State Secretary Amra Ram, CPI State Secretary Narendra Acharya and JDS President Arjun Detha. Starting from the Town Hall, the rally culminated in a meeting at the Commissioner's office. The meeting was conducted by CPIML leader Shankarlal Chaudhury.

Addressing the meeting, Arjun Detha said that the BJP is destroying all Constitutional institutions and is conspiring to end reservations. CPIML leader Mahendra Chaudhury said that the Agnipath scheme is a jumla in the name of jobs and retirement when careers should begin. The Modi government is imposing Bulldozer Raj to selectively target minorities. This government is a grave danger to the country and we need to fight unitedly to remove this danger. CPI leader Narendra Acharya said that the BJP is imposing its Hindutva agenda and vitiating the communal harmony and composite culture that makes India unique. CPIM leader Amra Ram pointed out the policy to snatch away adivasis' lands and hand them over to corporate companies and called for a big movement against this on the lines of the farmers' movement.

A 17-point memorandum was submitted to the Commissioner with demands including scrapping of Agnipath, land possession rights to the poor, jobs with dignity, reservation in proportion to population, and end to attacks on freedom of speech.

Against the Agnipath Scheme protests are being held across the country demanding its repeal. A protest was also held in Sangrur of Punjab on by AISA and other student-youth organisations demanding rollback of the scheme and resumption of regular recruitment in the armed forces.
