Protest in Palamu against Increasing Attacks on Dalits

There has been a sharp rise in attacks against dalit communities (SC/ST) in Palamu. On 29 May 2022 members of the Bhuiyan caste in Baraon, Chainpur were beaten brutally and subjected to attempted murder. On 9 May the home of Lallan Paswan was razed to the ground in broad daylight by a bulldozer in Dumri village, Naudiha Block. On 20 March members of the dalit community in Batsara village, Padwa Block were beaten badly and a Bolero vehicle parked in their home vandalized. On 18 June a dalit girl was molested near Gulabchand College in Sadhma village, Chhatarpur, resistance resulting in ruthless beating with a belt. Similar attacks on dalits and adivasis have increased alarmingly in Palamu. Instead of investigating the above incidents impartially and ensuring punishment for the perpetrators, the police are openly standing with the guilty persons. The people have lost faith in the police on this issue. Protests have to be held against each incident, and only then the police take action.

A protest was organized on 24 June in front of the SP office in Palamu against the police-administration's negligence and failure to take action. The following demands were made through the protest: 1. Arrest perpetrators in Chainpur Pavpahadi and all other incidents without delay. 2. Withdraw false cases against innocent persons without delay.

Present on the occasion were hundreds of people including victims from all the above incidents and their families, and leaders including CPIML State Standing Committee member Ravindra Bhuiyan, Jharkhand State Dihadi Mazdoor Union leader Rajiv Kumar, SC/ST/OBC Minority Morcha leader Ravi Pal, Jan Sangram Morcha leader Birajnandan Mehta, Jharkhand Kranti Manch leader Shatrughan Kumar, Hul Jharkhand Kranti Dal leader Rajendra Ram, AISA leader Triloki Nath, AIPWA leader Divya Bhagat, Rasoiya Sangh leader Anita Devi, AIKM leader Pradeep Vishwakarma, Ramrajya Paswan and Lalan Prajapati.
