JNU Workers retrenched

Against Repeated Non-Payment of Wages and Vindictive Retrenchement

After non payment of wages for several months, JNU administration retrenches more than 150 sanitation and mess workers from 4 May.
The workers have not been paid their salary for last three months. The All India General Kamgar Union (affiliated to AICCTU), the union of the contractual workers in JNU intimated the JNU administration and the office of the labour commissioner about non payment of wages.
As a punishment for demanding their basic legal rights, the JNU administration has now denied duty to these workers.
Students and workers held protest demonstration at the office of Dean of Students today. The Dean of Students, Mr Sudheer Singh categorically stated that number of workers in each shift of both mess and sanitation work will be decreased. This is in complete violation of law. When the amount of work in sanitation and mess remain the same, decreasing number of workers can not be allowed under any circumstance. Workers and students have started protest sit in at the office of Dean of Students in JNU.
Stand with the workers in their struggle against blatant violation of workers rights, forcible imposition of over work on handful of workers and casteist exploitation of sanitation workers.
AICCTU leader Sucheta De has demanded from the administration to immediately reinstate of all workers, a written assurance from Dean of Students about non reduction in number of workers, and the payment of wages within 7th of every month.
