On 7 March the police at Tandwa (Chatra) in Jharkhand brutally lathi charged villagers who have been agitating for the past 14 months for their 3-point charter of demands from the NTPC management. The police also fired tear gas shells. The incident occurred at the NTPC project complex in Tandwa. The management used JCBs to demolish the dharna site of the protesters. Dozens of people are thought to be injured in the stone-pelting by police. Traffic on the Tandwa-Ranchi main road was obstructed for several hours. The police prevented the media from covering the incident and misbehaved at gun point.
The incident occurred at 2.30 pm on 7 March. The Simiria SDO used police force to brutally beat up women even to the point of losing consciousness. Some women have been detained in the Thana. Many women were injured due to the beating by the Thanedar and police personnel. The police also fire in the air. The administration did not allow anyone to take photos or make videos and have snatched away people's mobile phones. The police chased and drove away people up to for more than a kilometer.
This brutality has been widely condemned and the CPIML has demanded an end to repression and to accept the demands of the villagers who are fighting for their legal and constitutional rights.
