WB: Conduct Judicial Inquiry Into the Rampurhat Killings

A series of incidents of political violence in West Bengal is a matter of grave concern. Earlier a student leader was annihilated and an elected people’s representative was also killed. All these gory incidents have cast intense rage, concern among the citizen's. Criminals under political patronage from the ruling party and in complicity with the police are inflicting statewide terror. Recently, Badu Sheikh, deputy panchayat Pradhan with allegiance to the Trinamool Congress fell to an internecine ongoing conflict on 21 March evening at Bogtui village of Rampurhat, Birbhum. Few years before, brother of Badu Sheikh was also killed, the assailants still enjoying impunity.

After the news of Badu Sheikh spread, the villagers were highly enraged and agitated. In the presence of police picket, 7-8 houses were gutted, and 8 dead bodies were found from one house only. Fire Brigade reported of recovering 10 dead bodies (including 6 women and 2 children). The police chief of the state officially announced that 8 people have died. Two warring factions of Trinamool are said to be behind this ghastly carnage, which was organised in a planned and systematic manner.

CPIML demands a judicial inquiry into this incident. It is alleged from different quarters that a section of officers, both within the police and executive are conniving with a powerful section of political leaders and getting involved behind all these heinous acts.

All the left democratic, peace loving, secular forces must raise their voice of protest against such politics of terror and killings in the state.
