Construction Workers Protest

Hundreds of construction workers under the banner of Nirman Mazdoor Union protested at the Labour Commissioner's office on 15 February for reinstatement of labour laws and against rampant corruption in the Labour Office. A 7-point memorandum addressed to the Governor was submitted. The memorandum held UP Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya responsible for the rampant corruption in the Labour office and charged him with using the office and workers for his own political ends. The memorandum demanded a probe into the corruption so that workers receive the benefit of welfare schemes. The protest was led by Naumi Lal and Kumar Madhusudan Magan. Addressing the protest organizational secretary of the union Ramesh Singh Sengar said that the 4 labour codes must be repealed, failing which the people must throw the Modi government out of power. The meeting was also addressed by Meena Singh, Kamil Khan and Gopal Shukla.
