Dalit thinker, activist and ex-IG Police SR Darapuri, Shravan Kumar Nirala of Ambedkar Jan Morcha and writer-journalist Dr. Ramu Siddharth were arrested in Gorakhpur on October 10 where they attended a protest demonstration for land rights to the landless organised by Ambedkar Jan Morcha. They were sent to jail after falsely implicating under various criminal sections.  Terming this draconian step by the Yogi administration undemocratic, the CPIML has demanded all arrested persons’ immediate release and withdrawal of charges which are undoubtedly false.

All India Students’ Association (AISA) has demanded Immediate suspension of Allahabad University Chief Proctor Rakesh Singh for brutally assaulting AISA AU unit president and dalit student Comrade Vivek. A strong legal action is demanded against Proctor Rakesh Singh for attacking Vivek with the intent of causing serious injury. 

This is outrageous and shocking to persecute writer- activist Arundhati Roy on a 13 year old FIR along with an academician from Kashmir. This is intolerance exhibited by the State and smacks of vendetta. At that time police did not think the speeches meritted any prosecution for sedition. How come suddenly it attracts criminal proceedings? This looks to be an afterthought, that too, in the wake of recent arrests of the Editor in chief of NewsClick under anti-terrorism law and other penal provisions. AIPWA condemns this kind of persecution of civil society activists and critics.

CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, CC member Prabhat Kumar and N Sai Balaji met the Palestinian Ambassador to India H.E. Mr. Adnan Abu Alhaija on 16 October. They handed him over a letter expressing CPIML's solidarity with the people of Palestine and their struggle for liberation. The party conveyed its “deepest solidarity to the people of Palestine, who are currently facing a genocide in Gaza at the hands of the settler colonial apartheid state of Israel.

A Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has today let down the country by refusing to recognise the rights of marriage and adoption of same-sex couples, although five years ago, it held that the right to marry a person of one's choice is integral to Article 21 of the Constitution. It is shocking that the Court has failed to reach the logical conclusion that equality necessarily posits equal access to institutions of marriage and adoption. 

The widespread police raid against editors, journalists and staff of independent media portal NewsClick on October 3 is an open reflection of the unbridled emergency the country is facing. The Modi-BJP regime is hell bent on suppressing every voice that disagrees with it, expresses dissent and speaks truth to power.

The Modi government would like us to believe that it is so committed to the cause of women's reservation that it called a special Parliament session to pass the bill. But the pretension of urgency gets exposed when the implementation of the bill is made contingent on the completion of census and consequent delimitation. What stops us from implementing it immediately?

In a press conference in Patna on September 05, CPIML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya strongly condemning the attempts by Modi government to destroy the country’s constitution said that Narendra Modi is a mix of Hitler and Tughlaq.  The Constitution of the country clearly says that India, that is, Bharat. But now letters are being issued in the name of President of Bharat instead of President of India. This madness of changing the name of the country will make us a laughing stock.

CPIML Bihar Secretary Kunal has issued a statement welcoming Patna High Court Decision in favour of caste census. He said that this decision has exposed anti-social justice politics of the BJP party while CPIML is in favour of conducting a countrywide caste census. The appellants who went to the court to halt the process of caste census being done by the government of Bihar were associated with the BJP. 

The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government has come to power on the emphatic mandate of the people rejecting the communal and corporate policies of the BJP government. CPIML had written to the Chief Minister cautioning that only focusing on the 5 promised guarantees is inadequate towards addressing the severe economic distress faced by the people in Karnataka.
