THE CPI(ML) Ranchi City committee organized a protest march and effigy burning of the Chief Minister against deaths due to poisonous liquor. The Raghubar government is fully responsible for the death of 6 persons due to consuming poisonous liquor. The number of such deaths has increased drastically after the government’s decision to sell liquor. Till now more than 24 people have died due but the government is oblivious and remains unconcerned. Despite protest by Opposition parties, the Raghubar government remained firm in its decision to sell liquor, succumbing to pressure from the liquor mafia.

The march was organized to protest against the death of 5 people in Hatma (Gonda Thana) after consuming poisonous liquor. Slogans were raised against the liquor mafia, and when the march reached Albert Ekka Chowk the effigy of Chief Minister Raghubar Das was burnt. The following demands were made through the march: the government should take moral responsibility for the deaths due to illicit liquor and take measures to end the poisonous liquor mafia; Rs 5 lakh compensation to the families of the dead, and all expenses for the treatment of the ailing victims should be borne by the government.
